Feel free to drop some booze by my place any Friday... Smiley  People keep moving on us up this way so our numbers are dwindling.  I guess that's to be expected with us military folks tho.

We're hoping to make it down for Nightmare.  Next week is spring break for the kids and I'm taking the week off.  Maybe I can get some more work done on the bus.

Jeepr,
First, welcome to our forum.  We're a pretty small club for the most part.  Most of our members are either from in and around Fort Leonard Wood or frequent Flat Nasty down in Jadwin.  We have a good mix of ATV riders, Jeepers and rock crawlers.  I think there are a lot of ATV riding "groups" in MO made up of friends.  We started OFO primarily as a communication link between everyone.  It also provides us a non-profit platform, if needed.  We're still new, est. around June 2008, and our membership is still floating around a dozen solid members.

I've never been down to Sutton Bluff myself but have heard a lot about it.  We're planning to team up with the FLW Military Jeepers to do a forestry cleanup in Feb.  Maybe we can put something together with you for Sutton Bluff after that in early Spring.  If we coordinate it right, maybe we can get some of the other smaller clubs involved as well.  Keep us posted on your ideas...
Tom

Hey, I'm new here, so be easy on me.

But, I recently found out they are planning some changes for Sutton Bluff.    I'm posting for 2 reasons:

First, they are looking for feedback on their project.  Bottom line is they are going to pave some of the roads in the area (booooo), and thus are considering building more trails to connect the others (yay) so we don't have to ride on the roads.  Anyway, all the info is here, and they are looking for feedback, so you can send your comments:  http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/marktwain/projects/nepa_project.htm?project=24279

My second reason is in reading that, I realized that about half of the trails are closed due to storms last Spring still.

I called down to see if they have volunteer days.  The person I talked to was very nice.  He said they do have volunteer days, but tried to tactfully say that the ATV people don't have much "organization".  In other words, he's looking for a group to volunteer not one-offs.  He mentioned Midwest Trail riders didn't seem interested.  I said, that's because they are motorcycles, like single tracks, and hate ATV's.  And, they don't ride Sutton Bluff because they can't go on the roads to get between trails.

So that got me doing some searches and actually didn't find many ATV clubs in the area.  He mentioned that it would entail probably coming for a "chainsaw safety" course and then a volunteer day.  I'm not sure if both could be done at the same time.

I may try to get some people from Midwest Jeepthing (Jeep club) that own ATV's to see if they might head down sometime.  Didn't know if anyone here was interested?  Is there some "large" ATV club that I'm missing somewhere in Missouri?  Are us ATV people really lacking any big clubs or groups in Missouri?

brooks, you hit on why I own a Honda now.  I previously had a Polaris Scrambler 500.  It's the "hybrid" one with 500 engine and 4x4 on a sport bike chasis.  It was CVT (belt).  Granted it didn't have low range, but that CVT drove me crazy.  One time I was going up the ramps into the truck, and it just revved, and revved, and I gave it more gas, and it grabbed and I flew into the back of the truck. Dind't break the window, but did bend the bed.

Right after that, I watched a friend put a Grizzly 660 (CVT) also, even in low range, through the back window of an S-10 when it got hung up on the wheel wells, and CVT grabbed and launched it.

So, when I went looking, I wanted something without a CVT, which Honda is really the only one.  But, other than that, I liked the Polaris, and did like the fact it is an American company.
